GACTC honors outstanding seniors in Senior Awards

On May 11, 2023 the GACTC hosted the Senior Awards Banquet! Students who received scholarships, awards, and the "Senior of the Year" award in their respective programs were honored. More than 300 people attended the awards, and $27,100 in scholarships was awarded! 14 GACTC students compete in state SkillsUSA competition

Fourteen GACTC students competed in the 55th 2023 SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference Competition, which was held on Apr. 12-14 in Hershey with more than 1400 students, advisors, and administrators from career and technology schools across the state. To qualify to participate, GACTC students had to have earned Gold Medals at the district SkillsUSA competition, which was held in January. GACTC inducts 72 students into the National Technical Honor Society

On Feb. 8 the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) inducted 72 students into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), an educational nonprofit that honors, recognizes, and empowers students and teachers in career and technical education. In order to be eligible for membership in the NTHS, the student's previous year grades need to average a 93% or higher at the GACTC, and 85% or higher at their sending school. GACTC Esports teams succeed in first season

The Esports teams at the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) enjoyed remarkable success in their inaugural season, with two of its four divisions winning the area championships that were played at St. Francis University on Dec. 3. The Esports teams at the GACTC compete against area high schools in two games: Rocket League, which is a vehicular soccer video game, and Valorant, which is a 5v5 character-based tactical game. Adult students collect more than 500 food items for community organization

Our adult education students collected more than 500 food items to assist with Family Services Incorporated food collection efforts to provide Thanksgiving meals to members of our community. Prior to Thanksgiving, our medical assistant students visited Family Services Inc. (FSI) to deliver the donations. Thanks to FSI for all they do for our community!

Garrett Baumgartner places 8th in national SkillsUSA competition

Garrett Baumgartner, a student at the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center (GACTC) in the Carpentry program, recently placed eighth in the national SkillsUSA Championships. The competition took place at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, which was held June 20-24 in Atlanta. Garrett Baumgartner and Pam Kenawell Baumgartner, who is a rising senior at Altoona High School, was one of 44 qualifiers in the day-long competition. The Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) held its Senior Ceremony on May 19 at the Blair County Convention Center, honoring all 247 seniors finishing programs of study at the GACTC. Students, families, school board members, and GACTC faculty were in attendance, along with sending school superintendents, principals, assistant principals, and counselors. GACTC student and former student recognized with Governor’s Achievement Awards

(Hershey, PA): Cameron Piper (right) and Aaron Bucher were recognized with Governor's Achievement Awards at the PA Workforce Development Association Conference in Hershey on May 5. The Governor's Achievement Award is presented to jobseekers who have put forth extraordinary personal effort to use resources provided through the workforce development system to reach an employment and/or education goal. Through the use of supports at the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, PA CareerLink, Skills, and other state-funded organizations, Piper and Bucher have secured and maintained competitive employment.
