Cabinetmaking/Finished Carpentry is a part of the Building and Construction Trades cluster. This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level in the Cabinetmaking field or entry-level positions as Finished Carpenters.

GET THE SKILLS YOU NEED TO SHINE

The first year of the program is the cabinetmaking portion. During this year, the students will learn many facets of cabinetmaking. This includes safety, set-up and operation of stationary power tools, sketching and shop-drawing reading, cabinet layout/design, and machining a multitude of woodworking joints. As part of these studies, small bench projects will be required to achieve these competencies.

The second and third years of the program will be a continuation of machine operation and more intricate joinery. Students will learn cabinet construction, door and drawer manufacturing, and plastic laminate work. Additionally, students will study the layout and installation of a kitchen cabinet. Both theory and shop work are included to incorporate the skills necessary for success.

Since mathematics plays a very important role in all phases of the construction industry, this program will include an extensive study of mathematics that is required not only for entry level employment, but will also be necessary for a student to achieve the highest level of competency.

Students are expected to:

  • Read and write at or near grade level
  • Be able to learn math and measurement requirements particular to the program
  • Be physically able to lift heavy materials
  • Demonstrate good work ethic
