(Hershey, PA): Cameron Piper (right) and Aaron Bucher were recognized with Governor’s Achievement Awards at the PA Workforce Development Association Conference in Hershey on May 5.

The Governor’s Achievement Award is presented to jobseekers who have put forth extraordinary personal effort to use resources provided through the workforce development system to reach an employment and/or education goal.

Through the use of supports at the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, PA CareerLink, Skills, and other state-funded organizations, Piper and Bucher have secured and maintained competitive employment.

Cameron Piper, who is an Hollidaysburg High School senior completing the Service Occupations at the GACTC this semester, is working at Martin’s Grocery Store on Chestnut Avenue in Altoona.

Aaron Bucher (left), an Altoona High School graduate, completed the Food Production program at the GACTC in 2020. He is working as a store helper at the Greenwood Sheetz.

“Cameron and Aaron epitomize the resilience and resourcefulness of the students who make up the Service Occupations program at the GACTC,” said Chelsea Gibbons, Special Populations Facilitator at the GACTC. “Their success shows the good that can happen when schools, agencies, and the local business community combine efforts and focus on what students with disabilities can do instead of what they cannot.”
