Equipment could include: lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and chainsaws; heavy duty construction equipment such as: water pumps, generators, cement mixers, cutoff saws, and compact tractors. The power sports industry is looking for technicians to repair utility vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, and motorcycles. Qualified and certified Powersports and Equipment Technology technicians have been in demand since the 1990s. The increased use of diesel engines over the past decade has further increased the need for qualified technicians who possess an understanding of engine technology. Salaries vary by industry and location but can exceed $60,000 per year. 

If you are a motivated person with a desire to service a variety of equipment, then you should consider the career options that are available in the Powersports & Equipment Technology Industry. The Powersports & Equipment Technology program at the GACTC is a three year program that offers training in both gas and diesel engine repair. Students learn the principles of engine operation as well as engine systems and drive systems used on various types and styles of equipment. The mechanical skills learned can be utilized and transferred among a variety of career paths in the industry.

STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO:

  • Be physically able to lift heavy engine and parts
