GACTC honors outstanding seniors in Senior Awards

The Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) held its annual Senior Awards banquet yesterday (May 12), honoring the school's top senior students. Students who received scholarships, awards, and the “Senior of the Year” award in their respective programs were honored. Selected by each program's teacher, the Senior of the Year exhibits outstanding qualities of success in skills as well as attitude and work ethic. The event was held at the school at 6:00 pm. Penn State Altoona to offer dual enrollment engineering course with the GACTC for fall 2022

Beginning in fall 2022, Penn State Altoona will offer Cornerstone to Engineering Design (EDSGN 100) as a dual enrollment course at the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center (CTC). Several local businesses have provided funding for student scholarships. EDSGN 100 provides students with a foundation for engineering design through hands-on team projects that address specified design opportunities. 16 GACTC students compete in state SkillsUSA competition

Sixteen GACTC students competed in the 54th state SkillsUSA State Competition, which was held on Apr. 6-8 in Hershey with more than 1400 students, advisors, and administrators from career and technology schools across the state. To qualify to participate, GACTC students had to have earned Gold Medals at the District 7 SkillsUSA competition, which was held in January at the Blair County Convention Center. GACTC employee recognized for service to schools and students

The Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) recently announced that Nicole Zernick, Career & Technology Education Coordinator for the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center, is the recipient of this year’s Susan K. Regional employers participate in employer panel for postsecondary students

The GACTC hosted regional employers for a panel discussion with postsecondary students on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Four regional employers, including Conemaugh Nason Hospital, Curry Supply/Aerotek, Goodco Mechanical/Bovard, and UPMC, participated to share information about career opportunities available with their organizations and to answer questions about soft skills, interviewing and resumes.

Stuckey Automotive donated two preowned vehicles to the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) to offer automotive students hands-on learning to examine, diagnose, and repair advanced computing platforms available in newer models on the road today. Fourteen students at the GACTC won medals in the district SkillsUSA District Competition, which was held on Jan. 19 at the Blair County Convention Center. GACTC employee honored with Educator of the Year Award

Nicole Zernick, Career & Technical Education Coordinator at the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC), has been named as the 2021 recipient of the Judith A. Rossi Educator of the Year Award by the Blair County Chamber of Commerce.   This award, according to the Blair Chamber, “was created to honor an individual who has had an impact on students, schools or educational systems that also benefit the local business community.” This award recognizes those individuals who serve as a bridge between our education and business communities. Mrs. Zernick is the third recipient of this award since its inception in 2019.  [...]
