The GACTC is excited to unveil a new program, Baking & Pastry Arts! The program, which is open to high school and adult learners, prepares students for a career as a baker, pastry chef, or commercial baker.

“Baking is covered as part of our Culinary Arts program, but increasingly students want to specialize in this area – and there are more jobs in this field, so creating a Baking & Pastry Arts program is a great move for us,” said Shawn Cerully, Dean of Students at the GACTC. “The GACTC is always working to develop new programs in response to student interests and the needs of the local economy.”

The curriculum covers the basics of mixing, shaping and baking for various types of baked goods, including breads, cakes, mousses, sauces, cookies, candies and confections. Job settings for students who graduate from this program can include hotels, restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, and baking manufacturing companies.

The new program is one of more than 27 available at the GACTC. Students in the Baking & Pastry Arts program will have the opportunity to earn the following industry certifications:

  • OSHA 10
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification
  • ServSafe Allergens
  • ServSafe Workplace
