Let's make cents of filing the FAFSA

    FAFSA Completion Workshop at GACTC - Nov. 19th 5 - 7 pm


    Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center (GACTC), in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), will offer a free FAFSA Completion Session on Tuesday, November 19th from 5 to 7 pm. The workshop, designed for any individual that plans to pursue post-secondary training in 2020-2021, provides the opportunity to get personalized help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the chance to ask questions related to the financial aid process.

    The FAFSA is used to determine if students qualify for almost all forms of need-based financial assistance, including the Federal Pell Grant, State Grant programs, many scholarships and school-based awards, and federal student loans. It is the first step in the financial aid process. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to find out about the student aid that is available to help finance college expenses. Families are encouraged to visit FAFSA.gov to access the online FAFSA.

    The FAFSA Completion Workshop is free and open to the public. Registration for the workshop is required. To register for the workshop, please complete the registration form at https://forms.gle/oMARd4yWvsiEmhQW9. You will be contacted after submission of the registration form to confirm your registration for the workshop.

    Please bring the following items with you to the FAFSA Completion Workshop:

    • The FAFSA asks for information about you and your financial situation. If you’re married, you will need the same info for your spouse. If you’re considered a dependent student, you will need your parents’ information, too.
    • Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID
      • Note: A FSA ID is a username and password used to log into U.S. Department of Education (USDE) websites and electronically sign the FAFSA. You and a parent will each need your own separate FSA ID. Go to fsaid.ed.gov to create your FSA ID.
    • Social Security number
    • Your driver's license number (optional)
    • Alien registration number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
    • Email address
    • 2018 Forms (if applicable):
      • W-2 forms
      • Records of untaxed income received, including worker's compensation, child support, payments to tax-deferred pension, savings plans, etc.
      • Federal income tax return and applicable schedules (You have the option of automatically retrieving your income and tax data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and having it transferred into your FAFSA. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is the preferred mehtod to complete the FAFSA.
      • Current bank statements and records of stocks, bonds, 529 plans, and other investments
