    PA State Safety Inspection of Vehicles certification course & Emissions testing

    PA State Safety Inspection certification course

    • Course description: This state approved course is designed to provide automobile mechanics with the required certification to conduct the PA Safety Inspection of Vehicles. Specific categories that individuals may become certified in include:
      • Category I – Passenger
      • Category II—Motorcycles
      • Category III-Heavy Trucks

    Upon satisfactory completion of the course, which includes classroom and vehicle inspection, a certificate will be issued by the PA State Department of Transportation.

        • January 21, 22, and 24, 5 - 9 pm; certification testing is conducted the week of January 27th between 5 and 9 pm.
        • February 18, 19, and 20, 5 - 9 pm; certification testing is conducted the week of February 24th between 5 and 9 pm.
        • March 16, 17, and 19, 5 - 9 pm; certification testing is conducted the week of March 23rd between 5 and 9 pm.
        • May 11, 12, and 14, 5 - 9 pm; certification testing is conducted the week of May 18th between 5 and 9 pm.

    PA State Emission Certification Testing

    • Description: This certification testing is offered for automotive technicians for Northern Region Emission Certification.  Individuals can go to paimtraining.com to obtain study materials for the certification. Individuals can register for the certification testing at https://www.patrainingportal.com/

    Machine, Electrical, and Welding training

    Machine (Beginning)

    • Course Description: A course to introduce the individual in the use of the different machining equipment. Instruction is given in basic measurement and layout and the proper use of the lathe, milling machine, and drill press.  Safety goggles must be provided by the participant.

    • Course Description: Designed to provide additional instruction and practice in the use of lathes, milling machines, and related equipment. Safety goggles must be provided by the participant.

    CNC Programming

    • Course Description: This course is designed to offer the student basic programming machine code principles to begin programming CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) equipment.

    Electricity – Residential (Beginner)

    • Course Description: A course designed for the beginner of electrical theory.  Theory and practice given in wiring receptacles, single pole switches, light circuits, 3 and 4-way switches and pilot lights, and interpreting electrical blueprints. The National Electric Code Book is used as a basis for reference.

    American Welding Society Accredited Test Facility Welder Testing

    Welding - Beginner

    • Course Description: A practical course in developing knowledge and skills in stick welding. Safety goggles and welding glove must be provided by participant.
    • Cost: $625

    Welding – Advanced

    • Course Description: Students will be learning all position welding in the processes of GMAW/FCAW/GTAW and ACAC arc cutting. ACAC and GTAW will only be in the flat and horizontal positions for safety reasons. Students will learn advanced welding techniques in the welding and cutting processes. 
    • Prerequisite: Students must provide proof of prior welding experience. The following items will be accepted as verification of experience:
      • Complete the Basic Welding Course offered by the GACTC
      • Proof of basic welding course equivalent to the GACTC Basic Welding Course
      • Letter from employer, must include:
        • Company letterhead
        • Verify a minimum of 100 hrs. welding experience
        • Information for contact

        • Students must bring their own equipment to use. This includes: welding helmet, leathers, welding gloves, and work boots.
        • Ear protection and safety glasses will be provided.

     SMAW Welding with optional FCAW & GMAW welding

    • Course Description: This training will prepare welders for bridgework welding certification including certification testing on welding process, preparation of material, and joint configuration for SMAW. The semi-automatic process addition (FCAW/GMAW) training can also be provided in this training, based on needs of individual. Training will include 1 hour of theory and 7 hours of application in welding shop at the GACTC.
    • Materials: Student must provide welding gloves, helmet, jacket, and safety glasses.

    Welding Testing

    • Description: Various welding testing is available. Please call the Continuing Education Office for more details. Testing can be conducted at the GACTC or at company worksite.
    • Cost: varies per test

    • Description: “The nationally recognized DSST Program helps you receive college credits for learning acquired outside the traditional classroom through a suite of more than 30 exams in college subject areas such as Social Sciences, Math, Applied Technology, Business, Physical Sciences and Humanities.”
