  • Administrative Office Specialists work in nearly every industry including schools, hospitals, governments, and legal and medical offices. Specific occupations include, but are not limited to, administrative assistant, secretary, clerk-typist, bookkeeper, payroll specialist, information processor, information technologist, and executive assistant. 

    The Administrative Office Specialist diploma program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to perform and/or assist in administrative duties in a general office setting. Administrative Office Specialists perform routine clerical and administrative duties including file management, drafting correspondence, scheduling, and assisting other staff with various tasks. Students learn clerical skills, office procedures, manual and computerized accounting, and become highly skilled in Microsoft Office applications. Students gain these skills and knowledge through work simulation activities.

    Students complete the following courses, preparing graduates for immediate employment as an administrative professional:

    • Accounting, including QuickBooks
    • Business Law and Ethics
    • Business Math
    • Business Transcription
    • Communication Fundamentals
    • English
    • Keyboarding
    • Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word
    • Office Procedures
    • Professionalism/Filing

    Students may complete an optional internship upon completion of the above courses. 

    Graduates of the GACTC Administrative Office Specialist program have the opportunity to complete an associate degree with several local colleges and universities. Please contact the Continuing Education office for details.
