Retail Marketing/Entrepreneurship is a three-year program providing students with entry-level skills in Retail Marketing, Sales and Customer Service. Businesses such as retail stores, restaurants and any customer service related areas are looking for qualified, entry-level employees from this area of study.
Students who enjoy working with people, have a friendly appearance, good communication skills, and a positive outlook would be successful in this program. This course provides instruction in selling, advertising, visual merchandising, promotions, human relations, cashiering, job interview skills, merchandising, and store operations. As the student progresses through the curriculum, he or she continues with emphasis on management entrepreneurship, computer-assisted instruction, and public relations.
This program provides the opportunity for a cooperative work experience in the senior year for qualified students. Students develop marketing skills through the operation of the school store. Students gain additional hands-on experience by participating in the school store through different roles such as cashier, greeter, and counter salesperson. The Retail Marketing/Entrepreneurship program clusters with the Logistics and Materials Management program in warehousing and inventory procedures.
Students in this area are members of DECA, an association for emerging leaders in the Retail Marketing industry. This student organization is active in the school community and the state by completing various community services projects and participating in the DECA activities throughout the school year.
