Veterans Retraining Assistance Program
ATTENTION ALL VETERANS: VOW TO HIRE HEROES ACT 2011-
VETERANS RETRAINING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
If you are an unemployed Veteran between the ages of 35 and 60 you may be eligible to apply for new benefits under the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP).
VETERANS MAY QUALIFY FOR ADDITIONAL EDUCATION BENEFITS
The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) offers up to 12 months of retraining assistance to Veterans who meet all the following criteria:
• At least 35 but no more than 60 years old
• Have an other than dishonorable discharge
• Not eligible for any other VA education benefit programs (e.g., the Post‐9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment)
• Not in receipt of VA compensation due to Individual Unemployability (IU)
• Not enrolled in a federal or state job training program
The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) focuses on retraining 99,000 Veterans for high-demand jobs. Eligible Veterans will receive up to 12 months of assistance equal to the monthly full-time payment rate under the Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty program (currently $1,473 per month). The benefit will be paid directly to the Veteran and the Veteran is responsible for paying expenses including tuition, fees, and books. The Department of Labor will also offer employment assistance to every Veteran who participates upon completion of the program.
For more information on VRAP and how to apply Veterans may go to the website at www.benefits.va.gov/VOW, or call VA's call centers toll free at 1-800-827-1000.
